A 28-year-old male is in custody and a 38-year-old has been severely injured after an alleged shooting which took place earlier today in Wausau on the southwest side of the city.
According to a statement from the Wausau Police Department, officers were sent to the area around Emter and Myron Street shortly before 2 p.m. after receiving a report of gunshots. Through investigation it was determined a shooting did occur on the 200 block of Myron and the victim walked over to an Emter street residence for aid.
The statement goes on to note dispatchers told officers the suspect was a Richard Mason and Mason was located a short time later by Lake View Drive and was ultimately taken into custody by officers without further incident.
Preliminary charges of attempted first-degree homicide have been referred to the Marathon County District Attorney. The charges have not yet been tested or proven in court and the victim’s name has not been released.
