A 72-year-old man is dead after a crash involving an ambulance last month and police are investigating.
According to a recent press release from the Wausau Police Department an ambulance from the Riverside Fire District was in the community late last month when it collided with a passenger vehicle at the intersection of Scott Street and N. 1st Street on the last Wednesday of the period. The ambulance was being operated in its emergency mode and taking the deceased patient cited above to the Aspirus Wausau Hospital. It is not known at this time if his death was the result of the crash or his previous incident which necessitated medical attention.
Injuries were reported by the other occupants of the vehicle and the ambulance, but none were life-threatening. The matter remains under investigation and the ambulance operator was cited for failing to obey a red light.
